When you think about top ecotourism spots in Nigeria, Lekki Conservation Centre immediately comes to mind. Established in the early 1990s and managed by the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF), it is 75 hectares of preserved mangrove forests and savannah vegetation. In recent years, it’s become one of the most visited tourist attractions in Lagos. It’s open every day of the week (9am-4pm), but weekends are the busiest days. The Mona monkeys are the dominant wildlife population and a delight to see. They are everywhere around the boardwalks, so you can take photos of them at close range. And though rarely seen, there are also crocodiles and snakes in the swamps. Most visitors to the LCC are drawn by the canopy walkway, which is 401m long and rises up 22m above ground level. Nothing compares to the thrill of walking across the walkway, hearing birdsong and getting a birds-eye view of the Centre — and beyond. Fun fact: The Lekki Conservation Centre is also birdwatching territory, so come with your binoculars (if you have one). Additional fun activity is climbing up the tree house. Further down in the Family Park, visitors can set up a picnic, hangout in any of the gazebos or play life-size board games.
